This project began with an analysis of the industrial wasteland that was divided by the Bay Bridge in West Oakland: It faces hundreds of thousands of car flow every day but often ignored. The proposal uses the original West Oakland city block as the generator and proposes “Resilience districts” that are more absorbent on both landscape and architectural scales. This project argues that existing industrial areas be phased out over time as the new districts are constructed, heading towards a more resilient future.
